History

The club was formed in 1986 as SKB Vitebsk. During Soviet years the club played in Belarusian SSR league.

From 1992 to 1995 the team (renamed SKB-Lokomotiv and then simply Lokomotiv) spent four seasons in the Belarusian Premier League. After three seasons in the First League and three in the Second League, Lokomotiv was disbanded in early 2001. In the same year their name was picked up by city rival Lokomotiv-96 Vitebsk, formerly known as KIM and Dvina.
